UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
EQM and ECAS Certification
For companies aiming to export products to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), obtaining ECAS and EQM certificates is a regulatory requirement and a key to smooth market access. Administered by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA/MOIAT), these certification systems ensure compliance with UAE’s technical regulations. The ECAS Certificate is a mandatory conformity document typically applicable to low-risk products. The EQM Certificate, on the other hand, is a premium quality mark awarded to manufacturers with robust quality management systems and consistent compliance. Both certifications enable seamless customs clearance, accelerated access to the UAE market, and enhanced consumer trust.

EQM
EQM (Emirates Quality Mark) is a more comprehensive certification scheme, typically mandatory for high-sensitivity product groups. In addition to document and test report review, EQM certification requires an on-site factory audit at the manufacturing location.
EQM is commonly known by its former name, the "ESMA Certificate", named after the previous identity of the issuing authority (now MOIAT). It is a prestigious mark that confirms full compliance with UAE technical standards and a commitment to consistent product quality.
Examples of products requiring EQM certification:
-
Bottled Drinking Water
-
Carbonated Drinks / Soda / Mineral Water
-
Milk and Dairy Products
-
Fruit Juices
The certification process includes:
-
Factory inspection at the production site
-
Evaluation of technical files and product test reports
-
Label compliance verification
At Certplus, our qualified and authorized Turkish auditors conduct EQM inspections directly under our own structure.
We are among the few companies in Turkey officially authorized to perform these audits.
Always verify the authorization certificate and auditor qualifications before applying to avoid delays or complications in the process.
ECAS
In exports to the UAE, product-specific regulations and requirements vary depending on the type of product. ECAS (Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme) is a mandatory conformity assessment system for certain product categories.
The ECAS Certificate is valid for 1 year and is issued under the name of the importer located in the UAE. The process is based on the evaluation of technical documentation and test reports.
Key Requirements:
-
Accredited test reports issued within the last 3 years in compliance with GSO standards
-
Label compliance assessment
-
Technical documentation review
Main product categories covered:
-
Low Voltage Electrical Devices
